Mark Begich

Board Member

Mark Begich is a strategic advisor, business leader, and former U.S. Senator with decades of experience across economic development, trade, energy, infrastructure, and government affairs. He is the President and CEO of Northern Compass Group, a business consulting firm that guides organizations through complex policy, business, and market-development issues. He is also the owner and operator of Alaska Commercial Investments, a private Alaska investment entity working to revitalize downtown Anchorage.

 

Begich represented Alaska in the Senate from 2009 to 2015, where he developed a reputation as a pragmatic, solutions-oriented leader with a strong record of bipartisan sentiment. During his Senate tenure, he served on several influential committees, including Appropriations, Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Veterans’ Affairs, Armed Services, and Indian Affairs. He also chaired the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee and the Oceans Subcommittee.

 

Begich was appointed to the President’s Export Council and served as Chair of the bipartisan U.S./China Inter-parliamentary Group, where he worked on trade, export policy, and international economic engagement. Before serving in the Senate, he served two terms as Mayor of Anchorage and ten years on the Anchorage Assembly, where he led major municipal and economic development initiatives, including advancement of the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center.

 

Through his combined background in entrepreneurship, federal policymaking, and strategic advisory work, Begich is expected to bring ONNIX active leadership and direction in public-private partnerships, federal-level engagement, and business development.
